Given the drought of iPhone related leaks this season, we’re down to analyst reports to form a picture of what to expect from Apple’s upcoming smartphone lineup. The Cupertino tech giant is expected to launch three smartphones this year – one with a 6.1″ LCD panel and two with 5.8″ and 6.5″ screens.
Additionally, Apple is also expected to finally divide the iPhone lineup for good. Ever since Steve Jobs took over the reins in 1997, the company focused itself on manufacturing two broad categories of devices – consumer and professional. While this approach was consistently demonstrated prior to the iPhone, the smartphone’s launch and the subsequent iPad releases muddled things up.

With the iPhone X, Apple set new records in several aspects of a smartphone display’s performance. The iPhone X’s OLED panel had the best color accuracy for any display, with little reflectance and viewing angle change color distortion. Now, tipster Ice_Universe believes that Apple will follow this trend with the 2018 iPhone lineup’s display panels, beating what Samsung offers with the Note 9 and the Galaxy S9 lineup.

The Galaxy Note 9 and iPhone X are neck to neck in some critical factors used to map out display quality. Taking a look at the numbers above, Apple will definitely compete with Samsung in areas such as color accuracy and ambient light contrast, where the Korean tech giant has gained the upper hand.
The Apple-Samsung partnership for OLED manufacturing has also positively impacted the Korean tech giant as it’s visible in the results above. With the 2018 iPhone lineup, particularly the 6.5″ iPhone X(s) Plus, Apple will take the ball to Samsung’s court (especially if rumors of Apple Pencil support for the gadget bear fruit). The iPhone X(s) Plus will catapult the lineup for professional users – a fact Samsung’s foreseen with the Galaxy Note 9, which has several features to target this segment.
