Several users have reported losing their data after updating to the latest Windows 10 version. Microsoft had said that it was actively investigating the issue. It now appears that the company couldn’t fix the issue and has decided to pull the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
Until the problem is under investigation, Windows 10 October 2018 Update will no longer be available for download. On its support page, Microsoft writes:

“We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.”
The latest Windows 10 version is neither available through Windows Update or the media creation website, which is currently only allowing you to download Windows 10 April 2018 Update. The latter wasn’t available after the release of October 2018 Update earlier this week.
It is unclear when the latest version of Windows 10 will be made available again to the public. But it is likely that the company would take weeks before Windows 10 1809 sees the light again. The latest version hasn’t only resulted in data deletion for some users, but it was also blocked for a select few machines due to excessive processor demand and reduced battery life.

Microsoft decided to skip releasing Windows 10 October 2018 Update to its Release Preview ring Insiders and pushed the update to everyone. Unlike a phased rollout strategy that the company has employed in the past, everyone who wanted an upgrade could hit the “check for updates” button to install Windows 10 version 1809. While Windows maker was adamant that the broader rollout will begin October 9, this “seeker” approach has certainly backfired.
Microsoft recommends not to clean install Version 1809 until new media is rolled out
The company has warned against manually updating to the October 2018 Update. While it could be a small problem fixable through a cumulative update, it is highly recommended to wait for Microsoft’s update on this issue before you clean install it on your machine and possibly run into more problems.
