Numbers for December are in and they paint quite a dreary picture of the latest Windows 10 version. AdDuplex stats show that version 1809 continues to struggle, going from 2.8% market share in November to just 6.6% this month. Note that we normally see a huge surge in adoption rate when Microsoft makes a version available to everyone, opening the floodgates.
However, the earlier experience and redundancy of issues is continuing to scare users off. Even Microsoft itself has advised users not to manually install the update on their devices if it’s not available for them through the Update Assistant. There are also multiple Windows 10 October 2018 Update upgrade blocks that are still in place.

Aggressive push of Windows 10 1809 could help the adoption rate
Earlier in the week, we saw evidence that the Windows maker has now begun aggressively pushing the update, potentially installing it on all compatible devices without requiring users to hit the “check for updates” button. If true, it will result in better numbers at the end of January but as it stands, version 1809 is potentially the slowest-growing Windows 10 version yet, which is in stark contrast to the last two versions – the April 2018 Update and the Fall Creators Update. Fall Creators Update aka version 1709 was then the fastest growing Windows 10 update, after which April 2018 Update aka version 1803 broke its record in its historic adoption rate despite the multitude of issues.
The latest concern in users over installing version 1809 also stems from the issues that were faced after the release of 1803. Even though by then Microsoft’s update strategy was highly trusted and didn’t result in that version itself experiencing any dents to the growth rate, it has all come down crashing with version 1809. Microsoft’s pulling 1809 back just two days after the release of Windows 10 October 2018 Update and then taking weeks to fix the issues before it re-released the Update didn’t help matters, either.
However, the company now assures that all major issues have been sorted and that users can proceed to initiate the installation process. You can follow this guide to install Windows 10 October 2018 Update on your machine, or this to block it if you are still unsure about it.
