Nokia and HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco in 2018, but it is armed with a Snapdragon 835 and wrapped around an expensive price tag that did not do justice for the average customer. What would have done justice is using that design upgrade paired with a Snapdragon 845 instead. Come to think of it, according to the latest rumor, both companies are actually working to release such a device but that rumor also states that the phone will be featuring a technology that has been pioneered by Chinese brands? What is that rumor possibly referring to?
Chinese OEMs Have Pioneered in-Display Fingerprint Readers, Bezel-Less Displays, and 3D Facial Recognition Systems – Could We Find One of These in the Upcoming Nokia Flagship?
According to Roland Quandt, a reporter at WinFuture, Nokia, and HMD Global have something with a high-end chipset in the works. At this time, only the Snapdragon 845 is the most powerful SoC used for Android flagships, followed by the Exynos 9810. Qualcomm will announce its Snapdragon 855, but that could possibly take place during the month of December of this year.

As for the technology that has been pioneered by a few Chinese brands, there are several, to be honest. Vivo was the first to introduce an in-display fingerprint reader to smartphones, no longer needing an unorthodox way of reaching for the fingerprint reader at the back to unlock the handset. However, this technology still needs an OLED display, so if HMD Global is going to be using an IPS LCD screen, the in-screen reader is not going to be compatible with it.
So, HMD/Nokia has something with a current high-end SoC in the works. With a feature that was pioneered by a few chinese brands. More about this tomorrow (CET).

Vivo was also the first to introduce the completely bezel-less future and it came in the form of the APEX but sadly, it was just a concept smartphone and will pave the way to what the future holds for the smartphone industry. That being said, we could see a completely bezel-less design on the upcoming Nokia smartphone. The last one is a 3D facial recognition system which isn’t exclusive to the iPhone X anymore because the Mi 8 was the first Android device to feature it, and later, it was found on the OPPO Find X. This tech might also be seen in the Nokia-branded device.
We feel that one of these three technologies is going to be found in the upcoming Nokia smartphone and to be honest, it is a shame that major companies like Samsung and LG are not using them in their mobile offerings. Chinese OEMs have honestly got the upper hand when it comes to staying ahead of the curve and it certainly appears that Nokia and HMD Global do not want to be left behind.
