Just after the announcement of the new MacBook Pro 2018 models, the latest report from Gartner reveals that Apple’s worldwide Mac shipments grew 3 percent in the second quarter of 2018 compared to the quarter a year ago. The latest PC shipping estimates reveals that this particular market has finally started to show signs of growth after a period of six years and we’re assuming that thanks to the inception of newer models, Apple could end up selling more units, since they feature the same starting price as the 2016 and 2017 models that the tech giant introduced earlier.
Apple Also Saw a Small Growth in Market Share Compared to the Previous Quarter
During the quarter, Apple shipped an estimated 4.4 million Macs, compared to 4.26 million in the second quarter of 2017. During this quarter, the company also witnessed a slight growth, albeit a negligible one; improving from 7 percent in Q2 2017 to 7.1 percent in Q2 2018.

Apple’s improved Mac sales come amid an overall increase in worldwide PC shipments, and it is the first growth that has been seen in the last six years. Worldwide PC shipments totaled an estimated 62.1 million units in Q2 2018, up from 61.3 million in the year-ago quarter.
While Apple did see a sales growth in Q2 2018, it was not even in the top three names of PC vendors. Lenovo was the number one vendor with 13.6 million PCs shipped, followed by HP with just under 13.6 million and Dell with 10.5 million. Acer came behind Apple as it shipped 4 million PCs during the quarter. Both Lenovo and HP are tied for 21.9 percent market share, followed by Dell at 16.8 percent and Apple, as previously mentioned, at 7.1 percent.

One of the top growth drivers for Apple now will be the 2018 MacBook Pro models, which comprise up of the 13-inch and 15-inch variants that feature a Touch Bar and massively upgraded performance thanks to the incorporation of better processors. Now, you have machines that have no less than quad-cores inside them, with the 15-inch models shipping with 6-core processors.
