Xbox 360 Emulator Xenia DX12 Support Added; First Halo 3 DX12 Screenshots Released & Halo 4 Has Begun Rendering

The Xenia team has released a new build of its Xbox 360 emulator and the emulator is now DX12-only.

The team shared a status update on the project on Reddit some hours ago. “Xenia started out using OpenGL, but that was quickly shut down in favor of Vulkan”, the team writes. “Many of you have already seen the amazing progress Halo made on the Vulkan backend.”

Due to being DX12-only, the project is exclusive to Windows 10 now as well. “Well, we have switched again. Thanks to TriΔng3l’s amazing work, Xenia is now dx12 only, which also means Windows 10 only. Don’t worry. There are plans to convert it back to Vulkan later. This is only a temporary step back to move forward.”

Apparently, huge progress has been made with Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4 has just begun rendering. We’ve included some screenshots of Halo 3/4 using DX12 down below:
