Remedy Entertainment will finally unveil their next project at this year’s E3. The game, which currently goes by the codename Project 7 (or P7), will be part of publisher 505 Games’ 2018 E3 lineup, which also includes Indivisible, Underworld Ascendant, and the Castlevania successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
505 Games hasn’t revealed any new gameplay or story details about P7, although they do clarify that the press will be getting a hands-off look at the project. That’s a bit disappointing, but hey, it’s better than nothing. Given Remedy’s pedigree, the game still ought to make a splash.

Early last year, Remedy announced that they were going the multiplatform route with their next game after years as a loyal Microsoft supporter. P7 runs on an updated version of Remedy’s Northlight Engine, and, like most games from the studio, will be a third-person cinematic action game. P7 will continue Remedy’s focus on strong storytelling, but will place new emphasis on replayability, with modern Destiny-like online features being strongly rumored. Here’s what Remedy creative director Sam Lake had to say about the game last year:
“We want to retain the strong storytelling and strong characters and strong world-building that we have done in the past, but also we want to find ways for the players to be able to spend more time with an experience that it’s not just played once through and then you are done in a weekend. Exploring ways to expand that side of the thing without losing what we feel that we do really well.”
I’ll admit, I’m slightly leery about Remedy’s plans to expand replayability with P7, but whatever brings their work to a wider audience is a good thing. I’m a big fan of the studio’s games, particularly Alan Wake, but they never seem to sell quite as well as they should.
Project 7 will launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 sometime in 2019. Remedy also has a second unannounced game in the works, but we’re unlikely to see or hear from that one for some time.
