Android Oreo Update for AT&T and Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Rolling Out, OnePlus 6 gets Selfie Portrait Mode and More

Galaxy S7 owners on the ATT and Sprint networks rejoice! Samsung has finally begun rolling out the Android Oreo update for their nearly two-year-old flagship for the Snapdragon-powered devices. It is worth noting that Exynos-based devices received the update much earlier and like with the Galaxy S8, Snapdragon variants of the devices had to wait a bit longer. Unofficial ports of the update have been around online for a while, but installing them isn’t for everyone. Software version G930VVRU4CRE5 for the Galaxy S7 and G935VVRU4CRE5 for the S7 Edge are rolling out. ATT is also rolling out the update. Build number G93xAUCU4CRE4 is available for both Galaxy S7 variants. Here’s the changelog that Verizon posted on their website:

  • Background limits for better performance
  • Password Autofill manager
  • Picture-in-Picture mode
  • App Notification Dots
  • App Pair shortcut
  • Dual Messenger
  • High-contrast keyboard
  • Dialer UI updates
  • Samsung SmartThings app

The update weighs in at a colossal 1.9GB and will take a while to install. This is very likely the last major OS upgrade the devices will receive, as it is rare for any device to receive more than two of those. To check for the OTA update, go to Settings About Device Software updates.

The OnePlus 6 is OnePlus’ latest flagship offering, which looked good initially but was later found to be missing some key features. One would expect a $500 flagship device to at least get some of the basics right, but the OnePlus 6 could not show the battery percentage next to the indicator. It’s a minor annoyance, and frankly, I’m not surprised that it slipped by unnoticed. The update also brings other changes such as the ability to use portrait mode in the front camera (kudos to OnePlus for that one), the ability to schedule Do Not Disturb mode and automatically answer phone calls using a Bluetooth device. Here’s the full changelog posted by OnePlus:
