Samsung started rolling Android 9 Pie out to most variants of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ across the globe this month. The only devices remaining are some global variants and carrier-locked phones in the. In a move that surprised us all, Xfinity started rolling out the Android Pie update for their Galaxy S9 and S9+ yesterday. Technically, Xfinity still uses Verizon’s infrastructure, but it’d be best not to get them mixed up. Verizon didn’t waste any time and is rolling out the much-awaited Android Pie update for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9++.
The update weighs in at a hefty 1.7GB has build number PPR1.180610.001.G960USQU3CSAB. It also has the January security patches along with Android Pie. The update should be available to all Galaxy S9 and S9+ users in the next few days. The changelog might seem a bit misleading at first as it only says “Security update and improvements”, but rest assured, it’s Android Pie. Head over to Settings Software Update Download Manually on your device to manually trigger the update if you haven’t received it yet.

It shouldn’t be long before T Mobile, Sprint, and ATT start doing the same for their Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners. The Galaxy Note 9 is next in line, according to Samsung’s Android Pie roadmap followed by the Galaxy Note 8, S8 and S8+. If things go according to plan, the rollout should be complete for all devices before April this year.
Meanwhile, it appears that users of the carrier-unlocked variants of both devices will be the last to receive the update. There’s an ongoing open beta for said devices, and it is unlikely that a stable release will be ready before a few weeks, at least. The whole point of buying an unlocked phone is that one isn’t at the mercy of carriers for major software updates.
