Android Pie Rolling Out for the Nokia 7 Plus

A few days ago, we reported that the Nokia 7 Plus’ Android Pie update would likely be delayed owing to ‘bugs’. We expected the update to roll out sometime within the next week or so. But, HMD global bamboozled us and rolled it out today. HMD product manager Juho Sarvikas announced the rollout in typical Nokia fashion.

The update brings with it all standard Android Pie feature such as the newly reworked Do Not Disturb Mode, Digital Wellbeing Dashboard, Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness and the new navigation button/tic-tac settings. The experience should be more or less Pixel-esque, considering that the device runs a clean, customisation-free version of Android. As expected, the package weighs in at a hefty 1400 MB in size and should be hitting Nokia 7 plus phones all over the world.

However, you might have to wait a bit as it is a staged rollout and some regions will get the OTA before others. Nokia comes in as the second non-Google company after OnePlus to deliver a stable release of Android Pie to their device. Yes, I’m aware that Essential is the first. The HMD Global-backed Nokia is the best iteration of the company yet. Although they have a long way to go before they can compete in the flagship market, their budget and mid-range offerings are formidable competitors to the likes of Xiaomi.
