Get ready to pay off your mortgage all over again, because Animal Crossing is officially coming to Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made during the most recent Nintendo Direct, which aired today following a weeklong delay due to the earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan. The announcement was delivered by Tom Nook himself, who hints we’re in for a familiar Animal Crossing experience, as he’s making sure “everybody has a nice, new place to come home to.” Hmmmm, and I’m sure he’ll be charging a hefty price for those nice new places, too. You can check out the teaser, below (thanks to the Nintendo fanatics at GameXplain for capturing it).
It’s been over six years since we got a traditional Animal Crossing game, with the franchise focusing on spinoffs and mobile games in recent years. Of course, the Nintendo Switch is pretty much a perfect fit for Animal Crossing, so we all knew it was coming eventually, but it’s certainly nice to have it confirmed.

But that’s not all! Everybody’s favorite flustered assistant, Isabelle, is joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster as a playable character! Isabelle takes it to opponents with a variety of Animal-Crossing-themed weapons, including the bug net and fishing pole, and unleashes Tom Nook and his nephews’ building skills for her Ultimate Smash. Check out her debut, below (thanks again to GameXplain).
And here’s another look at her in action.
So, what do you think? Excited for the return of Animal Crossing? I’ll be honest, I haven’t loved a lot of the recent games in the series, but, as I mentioned, we haven’t got a proper, core entry in the series in a long time. Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS was a great game, so hopefully the new Switch version will be the shot in the arm the series needs.
Animal Crossing takes the train to Nintendo Switch town sometime in 2019. Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate unleashes Isabelle on December 7.
