Neill Blomkamp, the acclaimed South African film director known for District 9, Elysium and Chappie, has been working with Electronic Arts and BioWare on a live action short film set in the world of Anthem, the upcoming online action RPG.
Titled ‘Conviction’, it will debut tomorrow, February 14th, though a very brief teaser trailer has been released. You can find it embedded below.

In Conviction, Blomkamp brings the vast world of Anthem to life with his own story set decades before the beginning of the game. In the short, people will see the player city of Fort Tarsis in the game come to life, and the freelancers that live within it. These freelancers who use Javelin exosuits, have been re-created by Neill’s team to show them in live action as they fight off the main villain and head of the evil Dominion faction, the Monitor.
Neill Blomkamp said in a statement:
I was really blown away by this incredible world BioWare created the very first time I saw Anthem. Conviction sets the stage with a narrative that touches on Anthem’s beautiful and immersive world, which is ripe for exploration by these powerful Javelins. A world where danger is lurking on every ledge and in each valley.
Neill Blomkamp, who has been hired to direct the next RoboCop movie, is known to be a fan of videogames. Last year he openly said he was playing a lot of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, while last week Creative Assembly revealed that the director visited the British studio and got a chance to see a sneak peek of the developer’s new sci-fi FPS IP.
Anthem, on the other hand, will be available starting Friday to subscribers of Origin Access and EA Access on PC and Xbox One. Those who purchase the game will get access from February 22nd.
