Apple iPad Shipments More Than Twice of Samsung’s Tablet Shipments – Popularity Creating Massive Problems for Other Competitors

Apple seems to be the only company that has bucked the trend of the declining tablet industry. The worldwide tablet market has been sliding for the last 14 consecutive quarters, but the sales of iPad remain strong.

iPad Pro Shipments Touched 11.5 Million Units for the Q2 2018 Period – Samsung and Huawei Still in Single Figures

Research firm Strategy Analytics has reported that Apple is eating into the market share of its competitors. Apple shipped 11.55 million iPad units in Q2 2018 which translates into a share of 28.2 percent of the global tablet market. Strategy Analytics has revealed that this is Apple’s highest market share since 2013. In 2012, Apple had a whopping 47.2 percent share of the tablet market which nosedived after a year and then remained relatively stable in the years to come.

Apple’s market share increased after the release of low-cost iPad in late March, just in time for the educational buying season and days before the second quarter. The new tablets start at $329 and they brought down the iPad’s average selling price to $410 in the last quarter from $434 in the same period last year.

With different offerings, Apple has a stronghold of the lower-priced and the higher-end market. This is giving a tough time to competitors such as Samsung and Microsoft. Senior Research Analyst at Strategy Analytics, Chirag Upadhyay said that Apple’s market share, brand power, and constant refreshes during every product cycle for the last year coupled with lower ASP has helped it to outshine its competitors.

Android vendors continue to lose market share to Apple. Global sales of Android tablets decreased by 10 percent to 23.6 million in Q2 2018. Windows slate shipments also decreased by 2 percent to 5.8 million units in Q2, down from 5.9 million in the year-ago quarter. However, Microsoft shipped more than one million Surface Pro and Surface Book 2 units in Q2 2018 and the performance is expected to get even better with the release of Surface Go which has officially launched today.
