Apple To Purchase 250 To 270 Million Units Of Smartphone Panels In 2018
As we have mentioned earlier, Apple is likely to purchase as much as 270 million flat panels for the production of iPhone devices this year. The news comes from Taiwan’s panel industry. The source said that the purchase of OLED panels in 2018 would correspond to different variants of the iPhone.

The company’s purchase of OLED panels will reach about 110 to 130 million units in 2018, which includes 70 to 80 million units for the current 5.9-inch iPhone X and a similar sized upgraded version. The remaining OLED panels which will be 40 to 50 million will be devoted to the cheaper 6.5-inch model, which has been living under hype for a long time.
In addition to this, the company will also be taking a total of 60 to 70 million units of the 6.1-inch all-screen LTPS panels for a new model which is said to be released in fall of 2018. The remaining 60 to 70 million units of LTPS displays will be purchased for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 8, 7 and SE, as per the source.
As for who the supplier of the OLED, Samsung remains to be the top candidate, according to the IHS market. LG will also be looking too into the production in the second half of this year for the 6.5-inch model of the iPhone. Japan Display and LG Display will be focusing majorly on the LTPS panels this year.
