Apple Will Launch Three iPhones In 2019 With Brand New Antennas

Apple’s had a busy year and after its 2018 iPad Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini refresh, it’s safe to say that the company is done for the year. However, even as we’re yet to enter 2019, reports for Apple’s plans for the year are starting to surface. Today we’ve got one from famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Take a look below for more details.

Apple Will Launch Three New iPhones Next Year And Equip Them With New Antenna Believes Ming-Chi Kuo

Ming-Chi Kuo is back today, and this time he’s got details for a very crucial component of the 2019 iPhone lineup. Next year, the flagship industry will finally adopt 5G, and Apple will likely be one of the companies that will offer the connectivity on its iPhone lineup. Therefore, the next iPhones’ antennas are of critical importance, and Kuo’s latest report provides insight into Apple’s plans for them.

According to the analyst, Apple will replace four of the iPhones’ six modified-polyimide (MPI) antennas with Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) antennas. This move will allow the Cupertino based tech giant to diversify its supplier base. Which, in turn, will give Apple more bargaining power, and protect the company from supply shortages due to unforeseen circumstances.

“In total, six LCP antennae are currently being equipped in 2H18 new iPhone models (XS Max, XS, and XR),” Kuo said. “We predict that [2019] new iPhone models, including the new 6.5″ OLED, 5.8″ OLED, and 6.1″ LCD models, will adopt four MPI antennae and two LCP antennae.” In fact, LPI might be particularly suited to 5G connectivity as the material behaves uniformly across all frequencies. The new material will also improve performance for the new smartphones in other areas, but it might prove expensive over its predecessor.

Back in 2017, we heard a whisper from China which claimed that Apple will use micro-LED displays for the iPhone in 2019. The news surfaced around the time Foxconn acquired Sharp, but since then, we’ve seen few, if any, details surface on this tidbit.  Apple will launch a new generation of iPhones in 2019, which will be distinct from the current notch-shaped form of the lineup. However, given the company’s recent history, we can’t take this fact as set in stone.
