Though smartphones are devices with solid-state structures, without possessing any moving parts to increase their longevity, manufacturers have had to take different approaches when it comes to increasing the screen-to-body ratio of their offerings.
For Apple, the iPhone X might not feature a chin bezel, and is a proper example of a portable gadget touting an edge-to-edge display, it is far from being called truly bezel-less and that is thanks to the notch, which houses some key components but contributes to that bezel.

An analyst believes that Apple will not resort to using movable parts on its iPhone lineup just to increase the screen-to-body ratio and he underlines some key pointers why.

Foreign Media Express has reported that Horace Dediu, a well-connected analyst states that Apple will continue to observe the traditional smartphone design without taking any bold steps such as incorporating a movable selfie camera like the one present in the Vivo NEX or in the OPPO Find X. The reasoning for this is simple; Dediu believes that Apple will not go through with this because even though it will allow the tech giant to achieve a high screen percentage, it will come at a cost.
“No, I don’t think any iPhone will use removable components.”
The movable parts will have a finite lifespan, and it will remove the water-resistance element from the iPhone altogether. Additionally, incorporating movable components are not just going to be costly for Apple, but if dust or water seeps inside, it will compromise the functionality of those moving parts. In short, Dediu is under the impression that achieving a high screen-to-body ratio while using movable parts will bring about more drawbacks than benefits.

However, both Vivo and OPPO have emphasized the durability and dust-resistance of the lens lifting mechanism. For example, OPPO has said that its dual-rail periscope camera has passed more than 300,000 tests in the laboratory and if you carry out basic maths, you will have to initiate the camera’s moving mechanism at least 150 times a day and only then shall the 300,000 figure be reached within a time span of five years.
