According to reports from a Chinese supply chain, component makers are sensing that the balance of orders of the upcoming 2018 iPhone family will be different than what was expected earlier this year and it could be because of the iPhone X sales. Simply stated, the affordable version of the bezel-less iPhone lineup could prove to be the primary revenue generator for Apple.
Apple Could Be Ramping up LCD iPhone Units Production – iPhone 9 Could Be Sold in a Much Higher Number
Some industry executives who are privy to the production plans have said that initially, Apple wanted to make the same number of iPhones with LCD and OLED displays. It now seems that the plan has changed and Apple is planning to make more LCD units now. The same thing was expected by former KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Apart from the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, Apple will allegedly introduce two new OLED models including a 5.8-inch successor to the iPhone X. Apple is also working on a 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X Plus, making it the biggest iPhone in terms of sheer size. All the upcoming iPhones will embrace the logic boards built on substrate-like PCB (SLP) technologies that were present in the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
The OLED iPhones will apparently have a stacked board design, an approach that used with the iPhone X if you check out the smartphone’s teardown, while the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will have the conventional single-layer layout. Apple will also be using a special engineering method to reduce the PCB size and make the device more energy efficient, resulting in better battery life.
Coming to the pricing details, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone 9 will cost around $600 and $700, though there are rumors stating that the starting price of the smartphone will be $550 and it will also come in a dual-SIM version. The 5.8-inch OLED iPhone is expected to be priced around $800 to $900, while the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X Plus is expected to be the most expensive version, with a retail price in between the $900 to $1,000 range.
The two OLED iPhones will reportedly start shipping in September and early October. A separate report has said that the 6.1-inch iPhone model might be released in November because of issues with cutting out a notch out of an LCD screen, but let us see what the future holds for us.
