While not as consistent as those for the 2018 iPhone lineup, rumors and reports for Apple’s 2018 iPad have nevertheless provided us with several important details. October, in particular, has witnessed a stream of successive leaks that end up revealing quite a bit of features for the tablet. We’ve got a new report today that provides two more details for this year’s iPad. A source that has provided reliable information in the past claims that Apple will remove the 3.5mm earphone jack on the tablet. This and structural and design enhancements on the tablet will reduce its thickness to a mere 5.9mm.
Of course no headphone jack on the upcoming new iPad. 5.9mm thickness is pretty good though.

Apple’s current 10.5″ iPad Pro and the iPad Mini are both 6.1mm thin. Therefore if today’s information bears fruit then the company will once again claim to launch ‘the thinnest iPad ever’ this calendar year. Of course, we’re uncertain about the screen size for this 5.9mm device but right now, only a 10.5″ diagonal can be safely estimated.

Apple’s also expected to bring USB-C connectivity to the 2018 iPad. This decision will open up the tablet to a large variety of accessories, and allow it to support 4K displays. After launching an iPad for the education sector earlier this year, Apple looks to give the device more features to function as a complete workstation. The 2018 iPad Pro is also rumored to feature Face ID in portrait mode as the tablet’s wide form factor will utilize the tech more aptly than an iPhone can.
