ASUS is one of the first few companies alongside Razer to jump onto the gaming smartphone bandwagon with the launch of the ROG Phone that took place last year at Computex 2018. The smartphone possessed that aesthetic vibe to match the gaming smartphone tone and it ticked all the hardware specification boxes to give the user the best possible portable gaming experience. Now it looks like the Taiwanese manufacturer is reportedly preparing a sequel, even though it is expected to arrive much later this year.
ASUS to Partner With Tencent in Order to Promote the ROG Phone Sequel to Help Garner Sales
According to DigiTimes, ASUS will partner with Chinese gaming publisher Tencent to promote the upcoming ROG Phone and attempt to increase its appeal amongst growing mobile gamers. No doubt ASUS will attempt to make the ROG Phone sequel using the same premium materials, as well as incorporate powerful hardware specifications. In addition, we could witness the same advanced cooling solution on the device that will allow it to maintain its temperature even during prolong gaming sessions.
We believe that the ROG Phone sequel will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 along with multiple RAM and storage configurations. Previously ASUS wanted to incorporate 10GB of RAM on the first-generation ROG Phone but it ran out of space filling the handset with other key components. With thinner flagship phones like the Galaxy S10 Plus sporting 12GB of RAM, it should not be surprising if the gaming smartphone sequel will be equipped with abundant amounts of memory and storage.
Pricing details were something that was left out of the report but we believe that just like its predecessor, the ROG Phone will carry a hefty price. A smart choice for both ASUS and Tencent would be to partner with banks around the world to make it easier for customers to purchase the ROG Phone successor. Since not everyone has the financial leverage to splurge $900-$1000 on a gaming smartphone like this, perhaps monthly payments will enable customers to have a flexible option down the road.
There are a lot more devices that will launch down the road and they will end up competing against the ROG Phone successor, to stay tuned for more updates from our side.
