Just make sure your Mac is plugged in to a power source, connected to WiFi and your work all saved in a safe location. Take the clean install route only if you are facing a lot of problems with your current installation of macOS. If everything is running smoothly then installing the update over the air is absolutely fine. You will see some performance related differences if your Mac is very, very old and hasn’t seen a fresh install in quite some time.
