Dying Light 2 was announced at E3 2018 with a stunning reveal demo during Microsoft’s press briefing, presented by none other than RPG legend Chris Avellone.
The sequel to Techland’s acclaimed open world first-person zombie game launched in 2015, Dying Light 2 will be much more of an RPG than the first entry and just last week Chief Creative Officer explained why that choice was made.

However, there’s more to the game. In fact, in a live interview from Gamescom 2018 with German YouTuber Rocket Beans, Lead Designer Tymon Smektala (who was interviewed by Nathan at E3 2018, by the way) revealed that Dying Light 2 is a bold sequel with a huge online component that the Polish studio is not quite ready to talk about yet. Before you ask, it’s not another Battle Royale mode – Techland is working on that with Bad Blood, a standalone spin-off of the first Dying Light that’s debuting soon on Steam Early Access and will eventually be available as a free to play game on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As to what kind of online component we can expect in Dying Light 2, it’s anyone’s guess at this point. The first Dying Light allowed an intriguing (and optional) invasion mode called ‘Be The Zombie’ where players could get into another’s game session and stalk him as a zombie. Perhaps they could be expanding on that concept.
Dying Light 2 is due next year, though Smektala reiterated that the team could still elect to delay the game if need be.
Dying Light 2 brings to life a unique post-apocalyptic vision of the Modern Dark Ages – a brutal, bleak and unforgiving reality where you are as likely to perish at the hand of a human as you are by the infected. In this exhausted world, your quick thinking, exceptional parkour abilities and brutal combat skills are the only things that let you dive into darkness and emerge alive. Make morally grey decisions and witness how they impact the world at multiple levels, shape the transformation of the City, and ultimately decide its fate.
