Apple held its big iPad Pro event on October 30 where it also announced the new 2018 MacBook Air and the 2018 Mac mini. While the MacBook Air features design variations, the Mac mini received a major spec boost. Now, the benchmarks of the Mac mini has surfaced ahead of its official November 7 launch. So let’s dive in to see some more details on the 2018 Mac mini benchmarks and how it performs against other Mac devices.
2018 Mac Mini Benchmarks Surface, Shows Iff Powerful Internals
As we have mentioned earlier, the first Geekbench 4 2018 Mac mini benchmarks have appeared. The new Mac was tested by Venturebeat and it was equipped with a quad-core 3.2GHz Core i7. However, the device featured an upgraded 32GB RAM. Even though RAM does not have dire impacts on the results, it would be neat to see how it performs against other Macs.

As for the results, 2018 Mac mini benchmarks show a single-core score of 5512 and a multicore score of 23516. In single-core, the 2018 Mac mini benchmarks beat every current generation Mac apart from the 4.2GHz quad-core iMac. The multicore score puts the 2018 Mac mini in the range of mid-configuration latest generation Mac Pro with 8 cores and a clock speed of 3.0GHz.
“The first Geekbench result is the strongest, showing a single-core score of 5512, which eclipses all Mac models save for the latest four-core 4.2GHz iMac, plus a multi-core score of 23516. This multi-core number would place the Mac mini at the same general performance level as a mid-range configuration of the Intel Xeon-based Mac Pro, which runs eight cores at 3.0GHz. Apple’s higher-end 12-core Mac Pro and four separate configurations of the iMac Pro all easily outperform the Mac mini, albeit at much higher prices.”
While the higher-end 12-core Mac Pro and iMac Pro beat the 2018 Mac mini, those relatively come at a higher price. However, if you’re comparing the machine with the latest MacBook Air, the 2018 Mac Mini is a more powerful machine.

We should also take note that Geekbench scores could be tempered with quite easily and benchmarks are not the entire story detailing the performance. Moreover, there will be a number of Mac mini benchmarks in the future but considering this is the first, we can see the direction Apple is headed towards.
