The Android Pie rollout for the Galaxy S9+ and S9 Plus started earlier this week, much to everyone’s delight. However, the update is only available in select regions, and some users may have to wait till January for their slice of the Pie. Shortly after the release, Samsung also revealed their Android Pie roadmap for 2019, detailing the eligible devices and when they’d receive the update. According to Samsung’s schedule, the Galaxy Note 9’s Pie rollout would begin starting February 2019. However, Sammobile spotted a listing on Samsung’s Turkish website that said that it would start as early as January 15th.

The Galaxy Note 9 is currently on the final phases of its Android Pie beta program, so a mid-January rollout doesn’t seem entirely impossible. Samsung already surprised us with an early update for the S9 and S9 Plus, so we’re optimistic. However, the 2016 Galaxy Tab A is on the list before the Galaxy Note 9, which makes no sense. The prospect of a nearly three-year-old tablet receiving what could be its last major software upgrade before a flagship device is absurd. Perhaps it is an error that Samsung might rectify later.
Everything else on the page is more or less on par with Samsung’s roadmap. After Note 9, it is only fair that its predecessor gets the update, followed by the company’s 2017 flagships. Even though the website has given us accurate information about previous Android Pie releases, the dates mentioned almost always tend to be tentative. The release date for other regions may vary though. Usually, most of Samsung’s releases are first rolled out in either Korea or the EU.
Most unlocked variants should be running Pie within 2-3 weeks of the release, barring the ones sold in the U.S (which take longer because they have to be tested across all carriers) Historically, carrier-locked devices have always had to wait longer than their international counterparts for major OS upgrades and we hope that things change with Pie.
