With the release of the shiny new Samsung Galaxy S10, it is easy to forget about the near two-year-old Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S8 launched with Android Nougat upon launch, and now it is receiving what could very well be its last major software update in the form of Android Pie in Europe. The open beta for the devices was in its last stages, so it was only a matter of time before a stable build rolled out.
The OTA weighs in at a whopping 1.6GB, which is expected of a major software update. Users who have signed up for the open beta should have it easier, though. It comes with all standard Android Pie features, but you also get Samsung’s OneUI. That comes with a system dark UI, new gesture navigation, and entirely revamped looks.

Users from various European countries have confirmed that they have received the update. Some of the regions include Germany, Belgium, the UK, and the Netherlands. It shouldn’t be long before it hits other regions, but it may take a few days, depending on where you live. Carrier-locked variants shouldn’t be too far off in line too. Now that the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 are mostly Pie-ready, the carriers’ focus should ideally shift for their predecessors.
If things go smoothly, all Samsung Galaxy S devices that are eligible for the Android Pie update should receive it before March (carrier-unlocked variants may have to wait longer, but that’s always been the case). Samsung is yet to stray from its Android Pie roadmap and has managed to stick to its schedule. The Android Pie rollout was also a lot smoother compared to last year’s and we hope that it gets even better with Android Q.
