Google Chrome 73 Is Out – Here’s How to Enable the Brand New Chrome Dark Mode on macOS

Google has released Chrome 73 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The latest version of the popular browser introduces a number of new improvements, including the much-awaited Dark Mode, which is currently only available for macOS. The release notes promise that the “Windows support is on the way.”

While Chrome Dark Mode has been in the news for the past couple of months, the release of Chrome 73 makes things official. Now, when you are using the Dark theme on your operating system, the browser will match the theme automatically.

There is nothing to be done with the browser itself since the browser is essentially trying to copy your system’s settings. All you need to do is to enable the Dark theme on your operating system (not the Night Shift mode) for Chrome to follow the same colors.

  1. Click on the Apple icon System Preferences… enable chrome dark mode on mac
  2. Click on General.
  3. In Appearance, select the “Dark” theme. chrome 73

Once done, Chrome will automatically change colors as long as you have the latest version installed. You’ll also have to relaunch your browser after it has been updated to version 73 for the changes to take effect. If it hasn’t yet been automatically updated, you can follow these steps to force update it:

  1. Open Chrome and click on Chrome in the menu bar.
  2. Click on About Google Chromeenable chrome dark mode
  3. It will automatically start checking for updates and then ask you to relaunch the browser.

Chrome’s Dark Mode does look like the browser’s Incognito Mode, which might make things a little confusing when you are using the private mode after having enabled the Dark Mode as there’s only the Incognito badge differentiating the two browsing modes.

Apart from the Dark Mode, Google Chrome’s latest version also brings several features and improvements, including changes to syncing and account sign-in and Auto Picture-in-Picture. There are also a number of security fixes coming with the latest version.

Chrome 73.0.3683.75 is now available for download for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android.
