Google Reportedly Sourcing OLED Panels From LG Display for the Upcoming Pixel 3 XL

An industry originating from China has said that the Google Pixel 3 XL will sport an OLED panel made by LG Display. The screen module for the Pixel 2 XL was also made by LG, while the device was made by the company’s sister firm LG Electronics. The Pixel 2, on the other hand, was made by HTC and it appears that LG will adopt the same manufacturing strategy this year.

Google Might Address a Myriad of Problems Present on OLED Screen With the Arrival of the Pixel 3 XL

According to a leaked image that shows tempered glass screen protectors for the upcoming Pixel 3 series, both the smartphones will have a dual camera system at the front. Such a setup was recently seen on the HTC U12 Plus, which made it one of the first devices retailing in the west to feature a dual-camera at the front.

Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL also featured HTC’s pressure-sensitive frame solution but Google rebranded it from ‘Edge Sense’ to ‘Active Edge’. The leaked image that allegedly shows Pixel 3 XL’s screen protector also suggests that the display of the phone will have a notch.

The overall design of the protector indicates that the upcoming phone may look a lot like the G7 ThinQ. However, it is not known if the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will sport a dedicated Google Assistant button and if the users will be able to launch the AI program with just a squeeze, something that could be done on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

Google is likely to unveil the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in October during its annual consumer electronics keynote. The new Pixel Buds and three Pixel smartwatches may also debut alongside the new Pixel 3 lineup. The timeline for the announcement is being reported for October because the current-gen smartphones were also unveiled during the same period.
