The new Pixel Slate is finally here and it looks like a blown-up Pixel smartphone with dual front-firing speakers. The Pixel Slate tablet is a great hybrid between a laptop and a tablet running ChromeOS, which has been greatly improved and enhanced in accordance with the hardware. Let’s see some more details on several aspects of the device.

The design of the Pixel Slate tablet comes with rounded edges and an aluminum metal build. However, we don’t see a 3.5mm headphone jack on it, which is definitely a step back. As we have mentioned earlier, it boasts front-firing dual-speakers, which is definitely a welcome addition. The Power button also doubles as a fingerprint scanner which is something new but definitely encouraging.

The display boasts a pixel density of 293 and its a Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon LCD panel which features brighter colors and faster response times. The screen size is 12.3-inches diagonal and supports 4K external displays. Both cameras on the Pixel Slate, front and back will feature machine learning and portrait mode. The front camera is perfect for video chatting featuring a wide-angle lens and a bigger sensor for low light conditions.
In terms of specifications, the Pixel Slate Tablet features Intel Celeron, Core m3, Coe i5 or Core i7 CPU configurations coupled with up to 16GB of RAM. The specifications are pretty solid for a convertible tablet and we can clearly see whom Google is aiming at. That’s right, the Microsoft Surface Pro and the iPad Pro.
ChromeOS has changed a lot. It now displays a grid of apps on the Home screen/ The launcher now boasts machine learning to suggest apps made that are most relevant to your needs at the time. Google Assistant is now more deeply integrated within the platform, which makes it even more smarter.
The Pixel Slate tablet features built-in virus protection, automatic update, and a Titan security chip. There are a whole lot of new software features which we will detail later on.
Moving on, what’s a ChromeOS machine without a keyboard. Google also announced the new Pixel Slate Keyboard which connects to the tablet via connectors at the bottom and also holds the screen up with a flap. The keys are round, backlit and quiet. Other than this, the device is pretty great.
As for the pricing and availability, the Pixel Slate will be available to at $599, Pixel Slate tablet at $199 and the Pixelbook Pen is priced at $99. All models will be available later this year.
