iOS 12.1 Speed Test Against iOS 12.0.1 Shows No Gain In Performance On Older Devices – Experience Remains Same Throughout
As we have mentioned earlier, iOS 12.1 brings a boatload of new features to the iPhone. It remains to be seen how older devices respond to the update in terms of performance. YouTube channel iAppleBytes have conducted a speed test comparison on older iPhone models running iOS 12.1 and iOS 12.0.1. Let’s dive in to see the changes.

On the iPhone 5S, we can see that the difference in performance is negligible. In iOS 12, animations and transitions are more or less equal to iOS 12.0.1. App launch times are similar as well. On the iPhone 6, the bootup speed is a little faster on iOS 12.1. The rest of the operations performs more or less the same. Speed test shows that iOS 12.1 is a little faster when it comes to loading content on Safari. The difference, however, is so small that it can be ignored. See more details in the video.
Starting off with the bootup test, iOS 12.0.1 is faster a couple of seconds. Apart from this, the overall performance remains throughout the operating system. The speed test shows that the iPhone 7 also boots up faster on iOS 12.0.1 but the margin is quite small. The rest of iOS 12.1 is pretty similar on the iPhone 7 compared to iOS 12.0.1.
