Even after Google snagged up HTC’s smartphone division in the form of a $1.1 billion acquisition, it does not look like the company is going to stop producing smartphones for the foreseeable future, even though the financial future of the manufacturer looks very bleak.
Things may still turn around for the Taiwanese phone maker as it preps to announce the HTC U12. According to the latest specs leak, the company might be able to take on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, because the hardware detailed here is really something.

HTC U12 to Get up 6GB RAM + 256GB storage – No Wireless Charging Reported but Overall Really Impressive Specifications
According to LlabTooFeR, a Snapdragon 845 is going to be expected on the HTC U12, so there is no surprise there. The QHD+ resolution is an interesting change to the extent that we might see the flagship bearing an 18:9 aspect ratio. The only question is if HTC is going to gravitate to the OLED side instead of relying on its Super LCD5 technology. Whatever happens, we will continue to report about it.
Face Unlock is something that has been debuting on mobile phones but it is not yet confirmed if the HTC U12 will be sporting a 3D sensing module or will it just rely on the software bits to recognize the owner. What we do know is that IP68 water-resistance has been detailed in these specifications and so is the amount of internal memory, which is listed as going up to 256GB.

A dual-camera upgrade with a 12MP primary shooter has also been listed and we’re hoping that HTC incorporates a telephoto secondary lens to thoroughly improve smartphone photography. While we’ve also seen devices getting 4K 30FPS video support, it is high time that manufacturers keep pace with the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 and deliver 4K 60FPS video recording support as well.
There was no mention of a price tag, but looking at these beastly specifications, we do not think HTC is going to be holding back on charging a hefty amount for the U12.
