The latest mobile chipset made by the Huawei subsidiary HiSilicon, the Kirin 980, will fuel three upcoming Huawei smartphones, including one Honor branded device that we discussed yesterday. Huawei has also announced four new P20 Pro variants and last, but certainly not least, the launch date of the upcoming Mate 20 series.
Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro Pegged to Feature In-Display Fingerprint Readers and 3D Facial Recognition Hardware
The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, which will be powered by the world’s first 7nm chip, the Kirin 980, will be revealed on October 16 in London and shipments are expected to begin soon afterward. It goes without saying that the smartphone will not officially be available in the U.S. but retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and BH might sell unlocked versions of both the flagships anyway, but they will fetch a much higher price tag than we’re used to seeing.

The unveiling date isn’t surprising as the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro were officially revealed on October 16 2017. Even though Apple and Google will get a head start by releasing their products earlier, the Mate 20 series will reportedly be packed with powerful features that can give its competitors a huge run for their money.
For instance, if recently leaked renders are to go by, the Mate 20 series will have sleeker designs than the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, and will also offer a triple camera setup on the back, something which Apple will introduce next year. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg as the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will purportedly have fast wireless charging capabilities, a huge battery capacity, the latest Android 9 Pie software update, in-display fingerprint sensor, and 3D face sensing as well.
