Huawei P30 Non-Pro Variant Expected to Be an Imaging Powerhouse – Could Feature 5x Lossless Zoom, According to Tipster

Huawei impressed the smartphone market with its first triple-camera smartphone the P20 Pro, followed by the much improved Mate 20 Pro. Sadly, the imaging prowess of these devices meant that smartphones like the regular P20 and Mate 20 would not get the attention they rightfully deserved.

In 2019, however, Huawei might be taking a different approach to things, because according to a tipster, the upcoming P30 will be an imaging powerhouse and could also provide up to 5x lossless zoom. At this time, only the Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X are capable of 5x optical zoom in a smartphone without a retractable lens, so Huawei could have lots of surprises awaiting us in the smartphone category during the first half of 2019.

Huawei Previously Stated That It Would Be Introducing Flagships With a Quadruple Camera That Are Capable of 10x Optical Zoom

According to Evan Blass, a person close to the information has stated that the upcoming Huawei P30 will feature an impressive camera system. Bear in mind that the device in question is not the ‘Pro’ variant, meaning that the P30 Pro could be the flagship sporting 10x optical zoom. Details of the tweet state that one camera will have a maximum image resolution of 40MP, and will feature a 24MP selfie shooter.

The 40MP could be the RGB sensor present at the back, followed by a wide-angle lens, and last, the telephoto lens that will be responsible for 5x optical zoom. Huawei got rid of the monochrome sensor with the launch of the Mate 20 Pro and we certainly hope that Chinese giant keeps it that way. With a wide angle and telephoto lens combination similar to the one present on the LG V40, users will have the option to take shots with a wider background or zoom into the subject comfortably without worrying about image quality loss.

The monochrome sensor combined several images to produce a picture with a Bokeh effect. Looking at how computational techniques is also capable of delivering that ‘Bokeh’ effect, it would be pointless to incorporate a lens specifically catered for capturing images with a blurred background.

Huawei will most certainly use the Kirin 980 for the P30 and P30 Pro, with the former sporting a cheaper price than the ‘Pro’ variant. Just like last year, we expect the Chinese manufacturer to make an appearance during the MWC trade show and showcase what barriers its upcoming premium handset lineup can overcome.
