Intel Optane SSDs Finally Land in Mainstream Platforms as The Optane SSD 800P Series – 118 GB for $199 and 58 GB for $129 US

Intel has finally unleashed their 3D Xpoint based Optane SSDs for the mainstream consumer market in the form of the Optane SSD 800p series. The Optane SSDs, not to be mistaken with Intel’s Optane memory, enables fast system boot and speedy application load times compared to conventional hard drives and SATA based SSDs.

Intel SSD 8 Series Launch as Optane SSD 800p – Available in 58 and 118 GB Capacities For $129 and $199 US

Intel Optane SSD 800p series expands the 3D Xpoint ‘Optane’ family which has already seen a few products. Primarily aimed at extreme users such as HEDT enthusiasts in the form of SSD 900p and Datacenter users in the form of the SSD DC P4800X, the Optane technology is finally making way in to mainstream consumers platforms.

Today’s launch includes two models, a 58 GB and 116 GB, both priced at $129 US and $199 US, respectively. Intel is aiming these SSDs at mainstream consumer PCs to enable a good boost over conventional storage devices such as hard drives and SATA based SSDs. Though, the SSDs don’t match the competitiveness of GB per dollar compared to those, the speeds are a wide fraction ahead and useful for users who want to update their older storage devices or use these as the primary OS storage device.

Intel is marketing the drives to be used as both standalone or in a multiple  SSD RAID configuration which would only be possible on the latest platforms (aka 200 / 300 series).

Intel Optane SSD 800P enables fast system boot, speedy application load times and smooth multitasking. It is ideal for use as a standalone SSD, in a dual drive setup or in a multiple SSD RAID configuration (PCH-based or CPU-based), offering performance and flexibility to users. The drive also supports lower-power states, allowing it to operate in devices like laptops and 2 in 1 devices, as well as desktop systems. The 800P excels with low queue depth random workloads, where most client system activity takes place, and offers uncompromising responsiveness and throughput. The 800P is available in 58GB and 118GB capacities in the M.2 2280 form factor using an NVMe PCIe 3.0 x2 interface. via Intel

Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P Series

Breakthrough Performance

Gaming enthusiasts, corporate business users, or professionals managing heavy workloads can now get the performance of Intel® Optane™ technology in a low-power, small form-factor client SSD. The Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P is an ideal OS drive, delivering fast boot, application launch, and smooth multi-tasking.

Featuring the low latency that is common across all Intel® Optane™ technology products, the Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P features breakthrough random read and write speeds, especially at low queue depths and under demanding loads.

Consistent Responsiveness

While traditional NAND-based SSDs can lose performance over time as the drive fills, the Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P continues to deliver high performance under load, over time as the drive fills, and across drive capacities.

Slim Form Factor Provides Usage Versatility

The M.2 slim form factor and low-power support provide the versatility to use the Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P in mobile devices or desktops. The drive accelerates system boot time and provides quicker access to critical files, while ensuring low power consumption. The small M.2 form factor packs the performance of Intel® Optane™ technology into a solution you can use as a primary storage drive, secondary drive, or as part of a RAID volume for truly demanding workloads.

Experience Faster Computing Now

The Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P is an ideal OS drive, delivering fast boot, application launch, and smooth multi-tasking for a variety of users. Add an Intel® Optane™ SSD 800P to your PC system today, and experience breakthrough performance and consistent responsiveness.

Both drives are available in M.2 form factor and are rated with a sequential read of up to 1450 MB /s and a sequential write of 640 MB/s. The Random read IOPs  are rated at 250,000 IOPs and writes are rated at 145,000 IOPs. The read latency is maintained at 7 µs while write latency is maintained at 18 µs. In terms of power draw, the SSD will consume 8mW in idle and 3.75W in load states. Intel is rating the endurance at 365 TBW.
