Intel Unveils Coffee Lake-U Processors Iris Plus Graphics, Up To 128 MB eDRAM and Much Higher Boost Clocks

Intel has also unveiled their latest Coffee Lake-U parts which feature Iris Plus graphics. These new mainstream mobility processors pack the flagship Intel GPU solution with faster performance and even more on-package embedded DRAM which makes for a formidable solution for sleek laptops.

Intel’s Iris Plus Graphics With 128 MB eDRAM Cache Integrates Within New Coffee Lake-U Mainstream Mobile CPUs

The new Intel Coffee Lake-U lineup is made up of four chips and have nothing do with the existing Coffee Lake-U parts. The new parts will be priced at a slight premium due to the better specs and would ultimately deliver faster graphics performance.

Intel themselves are mentioning some key features of these chips which include the following:

  • Up To 4 cores, 8 threads
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics
  • New Mobile Intel 300 Series chipset With Enhanced Audio and I/O
  • New Integrated Intel Wireless-AC With Gigabit Throughput
  • New High Speed Integrated USB 3.1 Gen2 (10 Gb/s)
  • First Intel Optane Memory Laptop Solution
  • More On-Package eDRAM (128 MB)

The one thing that stands out from the rest is the increased eDRAM size of 128 MB. We have seen previous parts with 64 MB eDRAM cache but this is almost twice the size which along with the 48 execution units clocked at above 1.1 GHz will deliver a great graphics performance jump. In terms of specifications, the flagship part is the Core i7-8559U which features 4 cores and 8 threads. The chip has a base clock of 2.7 GHz and boosts all the way up to 4.5 GHz. There’s 8 MB of L3 cache on the CPU and it supports dual channel memory running at DDR4-2400 spec.
