For analysis, DxOMark’s engineers evaluate results from over 1,500 images and more than 2 hours of video. Since the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max camera are similar in specifications, the result applies to both handsets. According to DxOMark, the iPhone XS Max has an “excellent” photo and video taking capabilities in bright light. In addition to this, the handset boasts a “very wide dynamic range and good detail.” The exposure “tends to be spot on” with ample detail and accurate colors.

Other than this, the review also coins that the new Smart HDR generates photos with “very good target exposure and a wide dynamic range in all conditions.”

In terms of video, the iPhone XS Max scored a massive 96. DxOMark stated that new iPhone shows outstanding video quality in bright light. DxOMark concluded that the new iPhone XS Max has “one of the best mobile cameras” it has ever tested. the device boasts significant improvements in various departments compared to last year. The tests also confirmed that the camera is all in all reliable and delivers good results consistently.

In low light conditions, it was also found that the camera becomes “a little more intrusive than with other high-end phones.” It was further added that the iPhone XS Max zoom capabilities lagged behind in the competition. The only camera to top the results of the iPhone XS Max was Huawei P20 Pro with a score of 109. Other than this, the new iPhone’s camera is said to be a “surefire option for any mobile photographer.”
