Apple has already introduced the new 2018 MacBook Pro models featuring an 8th-generation processor and though the company has been reported several times to introduce the MacBook Air notebook in the future, there has been no follow up to that news. However, a translated report from a Taiwanese publication will be able to provide more insight into the matter, as well as the internals that we can expect from the upcoming machine.
MacBook Air Will Not Feature Intel’s 10nm Cannon Lake Processors Due to Repeated Delays – Could Feature a Less Powerful 8th-Generation Processor
According to Economic News Daily, Apple will be using the 14nm Kaby Lake Refresh processors, giving ultra-thin notebooks the ability to tout quad-core processors from Core i5 and Core i7 variants. These 15-watt chips are integrated with Intel UHD Graphics 620 with support for up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM or 16GB of LPDDR3 memory. From the look of things, Apple is keeping the DDR4 RAM for just the 15-inch 2018 MacBook Pro models.

If you want the MacBook Air, it appears that it is going to be limited to 16GB of low-power RAM, which is going to be more than enough for a lot of users out there. It is also going to be putting less stress on the battery if LPDDR3 RAM is used instead of DDR4, giving the notebook more endurance.
These processors are going to be much faster than the chips powering the current MacBook Air, which sports a fifth-generation Broadwell chip and is limited to a dual-core processor. Intel is going to be releasing faster Whiskey Lake processors, which are going to be suitable for Apple’s notebook during the second half of 2018, but once again, the new silicon might not be ready in time to be featured in the MacBook Air.
