Mass Effect Andromeda Post-Launch Plans Were Never In Place, Unlike With Anthem

Mass Effect Andromeda has been released last year, but it received minimal post-launch support and no additional single-player content. We already talked about the game’s development issues more than a year ago, and it seems like the team was well aware that there wouldn’t be much support after release even before the game’s launch.

Speaking with US Gamer, BioWare’s Mike Gamble revealed that Mass Effect Andromeda’s post-launch plans were never in the same place they are for Anthem, mentioning that there was never a solid foundation for the game.

I can speak conclusively when it comes to Andromeda, the [post-launch] plans were never in place the way that they are for Anthem. The systems and tools weren’t in place to support the long-term plans, it was never like [Anthem]—never had a good, solid foundation to start from with that. Where with Anthem [post-launch] is a part of it. The job does not end on February 22. It only begins for us, really.

Despite its issues, which have been mostly fixed after release, Mass Effect Andromeda isn’t a terribly bad game, just a missed opportunity.

Mass Effect Andromeda could have been one of the best RPGs ever, but sadly the game never realizes its full potential. While the gameplay experience and RPG mechanics are mostly well done, with the best combat system of the entire series, the predictable story, uninteresting characters, and generally mediocre writing make the Pathfinder’s quest to find a new home for humanity not as memorable as it could have been.

Mass Effect Andromeda is now out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. BioWare’s next game, Anthem, will release on February 22nd on PC and consoles.
