The reason is that the company does not think about this Windows Lite as a lite or limited version of Windows, but it is a new operating system which is completely redesigned to be as light as possible. People expect certain functions of a product with the name of Windows, so using another name takes away the pressure.
In fact, it is expected that they will not even call it Windows Lite. For this reason, the new code name is given to this OS, “Santorini”. This name is not chosen randomly, since other versions of Windows Core OS have similar names, such as Aruba or Oasis, and many others that are being tested internally by the tech giant Microsoft. Oasis, for example, is the version they are designing related to the HoloLens, whose second version will be released in the coming days during the MWC.
On the date of arrival of Santorini, or Windows Lite, it is rumored that the tech giant Microsoft will present them in Build 2019, the conference to be held in Seattle between May 7 and 9, where they will also present their new web browser based on Chromium and will speak about the news that will be released for Windows 10 from 2020.
The all-new Santorini will be designed for lightweight devices, such as folding computers, and other devices such as 2-in-1 laptops. The company itself, of course, the tech giant Microsoft already is working on creating two of these devices, the folding one being called Centaurus, while the second is called Pegasus.
Both will run Santorini, but the operating system will be adapted differently depending on the hardware in which it is being used. This operating system will also seek to fight directly with Chrome OS, which now has the advantage of being able to use Android apps, something that the tech giant Microsoft cannot count on. It will also seek to compete with iOS on the iPad as well.

All these versions of Windows are derived from Windows Core OS, the operating system that the tech giant Microsoft has made from scratch, and this year we will know much more about this.
