Microsoft has pushed the public release of the next version of Windows 10 to next month. Windows 10 May 2019 Update aka version 1903 will be made available for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring soon. However, now that the development process of version 1903 has been completed, the Windows maker will soon merge the Fast ring with its thrill-seeking Skip Ahead Insiders.
Skip Ahead has already begun testing Windows 10 2020 and with Fast ring now done with 1903, Microsoft announced that Insiders should verify their desired Windows Insider Program settings to make sure they are on the ring they want to be on before Microsoft starts pushing 20H1 builds to the Fast ring, as well.
Skip Ahead to be merged back into the Fast ring; they’ll all soon test Windows 10 2020 or 20H1
“We will also be merging the small group of Insiders who opted-in to Skip Ahead back into the Fast ring,” Microsoft said today. “We are looking to make this change in the coming weeks.”
If you want to stay on the upcoming May 2019 Update, now is the time to switch to the Slow or the Release Preview rings. However, if you would like to test Windows 10 20H1, you can stay with the Fast ring, but be aware that initial builds are often plagued with tons of breaking bugs. Microsoft also added this warning with today’s announcement saying that 20H1 builds are from the development branch (RS_PRERELEASE) and “may contain bugs that might be painful for some.”
You can change your Windows Insider Program settings via Settings Update Security Windows Insider Program. Once your PC gets the 20H1 builds, you won’t be able to go back to the May 2019 Update without a clean install.
