Microsoft’s Alleged Surface Phone Rumored to Be a ‘New and Disruptive’ Device to Bridge the Functionality Gap Between Phones and Computers
Previously, it was reported that the rumored Surface Phone would be able to gain telephonic capabilities. However, that still does not mean that the upcoming device is going to be a smartphone and we’ll explain to you why. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets can now fit into larger computing machines such as laptops and 2-in-1’s and their ‘Always Connected’ status means that their embedded LTE modem will allow users to make calls over the internet seamlessly.

According to the latest internal document retrieved by The Verge, Andromeda, or the Surface Phone is expected to fill the functionality gap between smartphones and computers. What this means is that the device could offer performance that is equivalent to notebooks while being as compact as a smartphone to allow for maximum portability as well as improved productivity for the average user.
This ‘Andromeda’ is still being developed by Microsoft, so there is a possibility that a change is introduced in its size or functionality in the near future. Microsoft is said to be experimenting with ARM processors and it is no surprise that Qualcomm intends to take on ultrabooks with the release of the Snapdragon 1000 since it will feature a TDP of 12 watts and will be designed to deliver much better performance than its other chipset counterparts.
The chipset’s rumored support of up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM also means that users will be able to multitask effectively and gain tremendous battery life out of these specifications. The expected release of the Microsoft ‘Andromeda’ is somewhere during 2018, and the company’s hardware partners are expected to follow the same approach in the coming future.
