Motorola Lists All Devices That Will Get Android Pie

Android Pie is yet to make its way to most non-Pixel devices (with the notable exception of the Essential Phone). While several devices such as the OnePlus 6 and Nokia 7 have an ongoing open beta for the OS, none of them has received the final release. A few days ago, HTC announced that the list of devices that are eligible for the update. Only the HTC U12+, U11+, U11, and U11 life (Android One) are due to get the update. Today, Motorola did the same in a blog post.

Android Pie will be served up on the below Motorola smartphones starting this fall:

  • moto z3
  • moto z3 play
  • moto z2 force edition
  • moto z2 play
  • moto x4
  • moto g6 plus
  • moto g6
  • moto g6 play

The list is missing a lot of devices which should ideally receive the update. The entire Moto G5 lineup is missing along with the Moto E5, which was released only a few months ago. No timeline is specified, but we can assume that the Moto G6 will be the first to get it. Motorola’s software update track record has been abysmal of late.

Several devices are still running the same version of Android they launched with no update path in sight. Several variants of the Moto G5 are yet to receive even Oreo, let alone Pie. Even the devices that are on the list could potentially have to wait up to a year.
