MSI will be releasing a brand new series based on AMD’s “Polaris” Chipset The Radeon graphics based MECH Series, while this may seem that it is founded entirely because of the much maligned GPP from NVidia the fact that this is only for Polaris cards may mean this is just a change in branding.
MSI Shows Off New MECH Series GPUs for Polaris based RX 500 Series
Equipped with a new thermal design, the Radeon RX MECH series should allow for higher core and memory speeds which can also provide increased performance in games. The rather sharp looking MECH series cooler is made more noticeable by a fiery red glow piercing through the cover, while the MSI dragon RGB LED on the top can be set to any of 16.7 million colors to match your mood or build. A completely custom PCB design featuring enhanced power design with Military Class 4 components enables higher stable performance to push your graphics card to the max. A classy matte black metal backplate shows the MECH 2 cards more structural strength and provides a nice finishing touch.

So far we could not see the Mech 2 Series on MSI’s website at time of writing and can’t tell if there will be other cards aside from the 580 shown that are in the release pipeline.
“AMD Radeon has always been committed to the best interest of gamers: a dedication to open innovation such as our contributions to the DirectX and Vulkan APIs, a commitment to true transparency through industry standards like Radeon FreeSync technology, and a desire to expand the PC gaming ecosystem by enabling developers everywhere. It is these values that result in a thriving PC gaming community, and explain why so many gamers continue to rally behind the AMD Radeon brand,”
Scott Herkelman, vice president and general manager, AMD Radeon Technologies Group.
MSI’s award-winning TORX Fan 2.0 is the enhanced version of the patented MSI TORX Fan technology which generates 22% more air pressure for better cooling performance while further reducing noise levels. Connected to the huge heatsink are 6mm thick copper heat pipes with a squared shape at the bottom for optimal heat transfer from the solid nickel-plated copper baseplate combined with Premium Thermal Compound X to keep the Polaris powerhouse cool. This is nice as to my knowledge current MSI Polaris cards do not use TORX 2.0 Fans.
With advanced aerodynamics, the Airflow Control Technology leads more air directly onto the heat pipes of MECH series design. The special deflectors on the heat sink enlarge the surface area, which means lower temperatures and better gaming. Furthermore, MECH series utilizes SuperSU heatpipe design which is the best cooling solution for graphics cards. The GPU is cooled by a massive nickel-plated copper base plate connected to 6mm heat pipes. Additionally, the heat pipe layout increases efficiency by reducing the length of unused heat pipe and a special SU-form design.
