Nintendo Switch Virtual Console Section Added To eShop JavaScript Object Notation

Unlike other modern Nintendo consoles, the Nintendo Switch has yet to receive any way to play older games, not counting the NES games available as part of the Switch Online. It seems like, however, that things will be changing soon.

Twitter user KevDoy has confirmed recently that a Virtual Console section has been added to the eShop JavaScript Object Notation. Categories include SNES, GB, GBC, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS.

Before the console even released, it was being rumored that GameCube games would be coming to Switch through Virtual Console. The lack of the category seems to indicate that this won’t be happening, sadly, anytime soon.

There has been a lot of talk regarding the Switch Virtual Console in the past few months. Back in May, Nintendo confirmed that it wouldn’t be coming to Nintendo Switch, but it seems like plans have changed since then.

There are a variety of ways in which classic games from Nintendo and other publishers are made available on Nintendo Switch, such as through Nintendo Entertainment System. Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online will provide a fun new way to experience classic NES games that will be different from the Virtual Console service, thanks to enhancements such as added online play, voice chat via the Switch Online app and the various play modes of Nintendo Switch.
