Nokia 9 PureView Might Get an Upgraded Variant Featuring a Snapdragon 855 With 5G Support

The Nokia 9 PureView has seen repeated delays and there is no release date in sight. Surprisingly, HMD Global is allegedly already working on a successor to the unannounced phone, and it might see the light of the day in August. Apparently, the Nokia 9 PureView successor will have all the makings of a 2019 flagship, something the Nokia 9 itself will lack.

The Nokia 9 PureView Successor Expected to Be a True 2019 Flagship, Sporting a 2K OLED Screen With the Best Hardware for a Premium Android Phone

The report comes from a Twitter account called Nokia_Leaks, but since it was created only recently, we aren’t sure about the validity of the claims. According to a Tweet posted by the account, the Nokia 9 PureView successor will be underpinned by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and it will be a 5G ready device.

The phone is tipped to arrive in August 2019. Other notable features of the device include the Penta-lens setup of its progenitor, but it will apparently have a larger image sensor to provide better image quality. Apart from that, the handset will reportedly sport a 2K display with minimum bezels and it might also feature an in-display camera at the front. Keep in mind that all of these are speculations at this stage, so take this info with a pinch of salt for now.

However, the rumor might have some substance to it. This is because it makes sense for HMD Global to push out a Nokia 9 PureView successor sometime soon because apart from the Penta-lens setup, the phone will be nothing to write home about due to its previous-generation Snapdragon 845. If a Snapdragon 845-powered Nokia 9 flagship is sold for a high price, it might stop all momentum riding with HMD Global to finally release that elusive flagship. An upgrade of this kind could help HMD Global compete with the likes of Huawei, Samsung, OnePlus, and LG, all of which are expected to max out on their upcoming flagships.

For now, we are waiting for HMD Global to announce the Nokia 9 PureView, which would be the first phone with Penta-lens camera. Although HMD Global hasn’t revealed a launch date yet, it will most likely hit the stores in late January, and since it will be a high-end device, we think its price could start from $800.
