During the GTC Japan 2018 keynote, NVIDIA unveiled more gaming performance numbers for their upcoming GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and GeForce RTX 2080 graphics cards. The gaming numbers posted are based on internal NVIDIA estimates and may vary when we get to see real benchmark reviews in the coming week but they are still interesting for those who are planning to buy the RTX cards.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 Official Gaming Performance Numbers Show Up at GTC Japan 2018 – 4K 60 FPS Capable Without DLSS, Over 4K 60 FPS With DLSS Enabled
So far, the gaming performance of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series graphics card has been a topic of wide interest. The reason being that NVIDIA has talked a lot about the graphical features of their upcoming lineup but not so much about the actual performance benchmarks while the graphics cards are up for pre-order. Anyone interested in buying these graphics cards or even those who have pre-ordered are currently only dependent on NVIDIA’s own internal benchmarks as reviews are expected to hit around the launch date.

While we wait for the reviews to arrive, NVIDIA has once again showcased their own performance numbers of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and GeForce RTX 2080 graphics cards which look impressive. The performance chart, while quite vague, shows the GeForce RTX 2080 hitting the sweet 4K 60 FPS spot and being faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. The GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, on the other hand, is shown much ahead of it’s Ti predecessor and also, the performance gap between the Ti and non-Ti models looks quite significant compared to the last generation.
When the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti launched, NVIDIA showed how it was their fastest Ti yet, eclipsing the non-Ti GTX 1080 with up to 35% better performance. The RTX 2080 Ti seems to be continuing this trend as being the fastest Ti model to date. The other important thing to consider is graphics performance with DLSS or Deep Learning Imaging enabled. While RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti would be capable of delivering 60 FPS at 4K in many modern titles, games with DLSS technology would further see major performance boosts by not only enhancing the image quality but offering much better anti-aliasing.

Here we see the true potential of the tensor cores and their massive multi-TFLOPs of Compute power being put to good use. But while all this sounds really great, we have to consider a few things which are very important for the average consumer. First of all, there is no mention of the settings used for testing the games and what gaming titles were used. They could be titles that generally favor NVIDIA GPUs and we know for a fact that titles with DLSS enabled are optimized for GeForce RTX series cards.
It’s also quite astonishing to see the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti being placed under the 60 FPS bar on the 4K resolution. Sure it’s not capable of delivering an average 60 FPS in all modern titles at 4K but it is a very capable gaming graphics card and the performance king of its generation which made 4K 60 FPS a reality. Even some factory overclocked cards can reach the 4K 60 FPS mark with ease so that should be taken into consideration and that definitely warrants people to wait for actual and most importantly, independent reviews in a few days.
Just a few hours ago, nine new games due to adopt the NVIDIA DLSS technology featured in the upcoming GeForce RTX graphics cards were announced by the ‘Green Team’.
The list of new titles includes titles like Darksiders III and OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead, both due in November, as well as others that are already out like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice or SCUM and Fear the Wolves, both of which are available on Steam Early Access. The total count of games featuring NVIDIA DLSS support is now twenty-five.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 is twice as fast as the GeForce GTX 1080.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg since when you put NVIDIA’s new Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) tech to the equation, the performance of RTX 2080 is boosted by 2 times over its predecessors. Some games that support NVIDIA’s upcoming DLSS tech such as Final Fantasy XV, PUBG, ARK: Survival Evolved and JX3 were tested and delivered with astonishing numbers.
For game after game, Turing delivers big performance gains (see chart, above). Those numbers get even bigger with deep learning super-sampling, or DLSS, unveiled Monday.
DLSS takes advantage of our tensor cores’ ability to use AI. In this case it’s used to develop a neural network that teaches itself how to render a game. It smooths the edges of rendered objects and increases performance.
That’s one example of how Turing can do things no other GPU can. This makes Turing’s full performance hard to measure.
But looking at today’s PC games — against which GPUs without Turing’s capabilities have long been measured — it’s clear Turing is an absolute beast.

NVIDIA may have their reasons to not publish performance numbers for a product that hasn’t been launched yet but with a lot of people waiting for these cards for a long time now and with large pre-orders coming in, they should have communicated better with the public. Then again, aside from just raw performance numbers, the GeForce RTX series packs so many new features that it will be very interesting to see how they perform in next-generation titles that fully make use of them and deliver a new era of visually immersive graphics with great performance.
The GeForce RTX 20 Series Market Availability – Preorder Now, On Shelves 20th September
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series launches today in reference variants first. This time, NVIDIA has already given the green light to their manufacturers to announce custom cards soon after the reference launch which are now available to pre-order on the official GeForce webpage. The one thing we should tell is that the performance numbers are still under wraps till 19th August which leaves little or no time for consumers to reconsider the pre-orders since the availability is a day later or less than 24 hours. The reviews for the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 will go live on 19th September at the same time, but if you are planning to buy one, or already pre-ordered one, but going to reconsider your purchase, then you will have little to think.
