NVIDIA Shield TV Update Adds 120Hz Support, Voice Chat and More

The state of Android TV-powered devices isn’t the best thanks to OEMs largely forgetting about the existence of their device, but the NVIDIA Shield isn’t one of them. Despite a few hiccups following its Android Oreo rollout, the NVIDIA Shield continues to receive timely updates. Today, NVIDIA is launching the 20th software update for the Shield TV with a ton of improvements. Here’s the full changelog

  • In-game voice chat support – for communicating in top GeForce NOW games like Fortnite – with headsets connected to the 3.5mm headset jack on SHIELD controllers
  • Improved keyboard and mouse support in GeForce NOW
  • Smoother, more accurate mouse movements
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Keyboard and Mouse games row
  • More day-and-date releases including Monster Hunter World and F1 2018
  • The upcoming release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • NVIDIA SHIELD TV companion app with a virtual keyboard and mouse that makes entering user names, email addresses and password simple
  • The triumphant return of NVIDIA Share features (Broadcast to Twitch, recording and screenshots)

The update brings several improvements to NVIDIA Share which lets you grab screenshots, record gameplay footage, or stream to Twitch relatively easily. GeForce Now gets a few changes including In-game chat, which is essential in some multiplayer games. It is now supported via headsets that are plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom of the Shield Controller. Keyboard and mouse users will experience more smoothness after the update which also adds keyboard shortcuts and a dedicated KB/M row in GeForce to access compatible titles quickly.
