Despite the tech giant Google’s attempts to strengthen the security of its operating system, of course, I am talking about the most used mobile operating system, Android, and end, however, with malware, the company does not end up finding the definitive solution for it. According to the latest reports, recently, a well-known security firm has discovered a dangerous spyware that simply records phone calls, steal pictures and texts.
OMG! This Android Spyware Records Phone Calls, Steal Pictures Texts
Despite the tech giant Google’s attempts to strengthen the security of its operating system, of course, I am talking about the most used mobile operating system, Android, and end, however, with malware, the company does not end up finding the definitive solution for it.
In addition to Google Play Protect being Android’s worst antivirus, hackers constantly create new, increasingly dangerous threats, such as Triout, the new Trojan that is endangering a large number of Android devices around the world.
This new malware is actually named Triout by Bitdefender, the security firm that has come up with this threat, this new Trojan is born as a clone of a similar threat seen already in 2016 in the Play Store but now it is much more dangerous and complete.
Apparently, hackers are taking advantage of third-party app stores to distribute the hidden Trojan within other applications, as well as distribute it in targeted attacks.
Triout has a completely new control server (CC) which is still active and running. All connections to this server are encrypted and obscured to avoid detection and, from there, hackers following this threat can control the Trojan, send orders and save all the data it steals from infected devices.
Although the possibilities of this Trojan are immense, its main function is to work as a spyware, that is, it focuses on stealing information from infected devices. Thus, this Trojan records the calls we make from our infected device and sends them to the control server, along with all the information related to the recorded calls.
In addition, it is also capable of taking photos and recording videos, as well as sending all the photos and all the videos that we have made from our devices to the control server of the hackers.
This Trojan also tracks and record the GPS positions of the victims, as well as it is also being able to monitor the SMS that it sends and receives.
How to protect yourself from the Triout Trojan for Android
As we have said before, the primary source of distribution of this dangerous Trojan is the third-party application stores. Therefore, the best way to protect ourselves from it is to avoid installing applications from outside the Play Store or other trusted stores, such as the Amazon application store or F-Droid, the OpenSource application store for Android.
When installing an application it is also advisable to always look at its permissions to detect possible threats. Basic security tips, such as encrypting phone data, making regular backup copies and always using the latest Android security patches and other applications will also help keep our devices safe.
