It was only a matter of time before ‘gaming phones’ would become mainstream, and the Razer Phone is one of the first to be marketed as such. Although the Razer Phone had the current generation flagship hardware at its time, what set it apart was its 120Hz display which was the first of its kind on a mobile device. Not too long ago, the company followed released a sequel for the device in the form of the Razer Phone 2. This week, Razer announced a new OTA update for their latest smartphone which shows they are focusing on the camera experience. Here is the changelog:
- Camera
- Improved colour for richer more vibrant shots
- Improved brightness for warmer tones and details
- Improved HDR for more consistent shot detection and processing
- Audio fixes and improvements
- Other bug fixes
Ideally, ‘gaming phones’ are not meant to take high-quality photos. However, considering the Razer Phone 2’s asking price ( $700 on Amazon), a potential customer wouldn’t want a device with a sub-par camera. The thing is, it is difficult to produce images that can compete with the likes of the Pixel 3 and the Galaxy Note 9, even more so when you’re a company with minimal experience in the smartphone business.

However, Ports of the Google Camera have been able to improve the image quality of a lot of devices and the Razer Phone 2 stands to benefit from it as well. It’s good to see that Razer is taking out time and effort to improve the quality of their camera natively. If you own the Razer Phone 2, then you can look forward to a new OTA update, which is around 105MB in size. Even if you don’t take a lot of photos with your Razer Phone 2, then you can look forward to the audio enhancements and the bug fixes that have been addressed in this new update that’s currently rolling out.
