As with all the classic entries in the series, the recent Resident Evil 2 remake includes a wide variety of extras for players to unlock. New modes, costumes, weapons, concept art, and more can be accessed if you’re dedicated enough…or have five bucks. Yes, that’s right, Capcom has quietly released a new piece of DLC that gives you quick access to all of Resident Evil 2’s unlockables. Here’s what it your $5 gets you…
- Extra mode – “The 4th Survivor”
- Extra mode – “The Tofu Survivor”
- Infinite ammo Combat Knife
- Infinite ammo Samurai Edge pistol
- Infinite ammo Submachine gun
- Infinite ammo Minigun
- Infinite ammo Rocket Launcher
- All non-paid costumes
- All models
- Concept art
On the one hand, this kind of flies in the face of Resident Evil 2’s retro feel, and will probably be more than a bit irritating for those who broke their backs earning this stuff the hard way. On the other hand, most people aren’t going to have the patience to earn all this stuff, so it’s not the end of the world if a paid option exists. Personally, I would have preferred if Capcom had given players the option right from the start, so players could have made a more informed decision about how to spend their time.
Haven’t tried out the new RE2 yet? If you’re brave enough, you should give it at try, as I found it to be a rock-solid remake in my review…
“Resident Evil 2 is a polished, respectful remake of a survival horror classic that probably would have benefitted from a slightly more daring approach. Hints of a braver revamp are sprinkled throughout, but it doesn’t take the risks necessary to join the canon of truly great video game remakes. Make no mistake though, if you loved the original Resident Evil 2, you’ll likely love the remake, and new players who can tolerate a few old-school quirks ought to have a gruesome good time as well.”
Resident Evil 2 is available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
