Rocket League Xbox One X Support Detailed, Crossplay Still Being Held Back by Sony

We’ve known since January of this year that Rocket League would, eventually, be getting Xbox One X support, but specific info has remained sparse. Thankfully, Psyonix has finally provided new details – Rocket League will run at 4K/60fps with full HDR support following a patch in early December. Not sure why this update has been so long in the oven, but Rocket League’s cars should look nice in 4K!

Psyonix has also provided an update on the long-promised RocketID feature and crossplay. Psyonix recently urged Rocket League fans to “have some patience” regarding crossplay, and now they’ve revealed who’s holding up the process. Surprise, surprise, it’s Sony…

“We have an update on RocketID, a feature that many of you are really excited for. While our goal was to release RocketID before the end of 2018, we’ve made the difficult decision to push its release into early 2019. The good news is that with Sony’s recent announcements regarding full cross-platform functionality, we can now make additional changes to prepare RocketID for ALL platforms should we receive permission to do so! We’re working incredibly hard to ensure that it’s as intuitive, stable, and polished as possible, before releasing it to the world. We know the wait has been frustrating for many of you who are eager for this feature, and we thank you for your patience as we continue to work on cross-platform support.”

Sony says they’re still “testing” the concept of crossplay with Fortnite, but you have to believe Rocket League will be at the top of the list when they start approving more games. In addition to crossplay and Xbox One X support, Psyonix is promising a new Rocket Pass, more licensed DLC, and the returning Frosty Fest event will all arrive in December.

Rocket League is currently available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
