Korean Media Reports That Samsung Will ‘Commercialize’ Virtual Fingerprint Recognition On The Galaxy S10 As The Company Is Eager To Keep Up With Its Chinese Competitors
Looks like Samsung is finally feeling the heat not from Apple but from China. 2018’s marked a great start from both Xiaomi and OnePlus. The pair’s Mi8 and OnePlus 6 almost match the Galaxy S9 lineup in terms of specifications and features. They also compete adequately with Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones in aesthetics. Therefore, it’s safe to say, if Samsung doesn’t shake things up, it’s current flagship presence won’t last for long.
On this note, the company has apparently ‘confirmed’ that the Galaxy S10 will feature virtual fingerprint recognition. According to ETNews, “Samsung Electronics has decided to commercialize the display fingerprint reader on the Galaxy S10. We know Samsung Display is in charge of the display and Qualcomm is in the spotlight.” said the company in a statement.
Such a confirmation, more than eight months before the S10’s expected launch (unless it launches in January), can serve only one purpose. Samsung’s feeling the heat folks and the company wants to ensure people don’t start to panic. After all, given the Korean corporate environment (or any, for that matter), coming in second place to companies with far less manufacturing and design experience is a pill that’s impossible to swallow.

Samsung And Qualcomm Will Team Up For Ultrasonic Fingerprint Recognition On The Galaxy S10 – San Diego Chip Giant Will Provide Sensors While Seoul Will Integrate Them Inside Display Panels
Earlier this month, a report from the Korean press confirmed that Samsung will not launch virtual fingerprint sensing with the Galaxy Note 9. While some folks expected the company to follow Vivo’s footsteps, Samsung (and for that matter, Apple) is instead developing ultrasonic fingerprint recognition. While intriguing, Qualcomm’s had an ultrasonic solution out for over a year.
True to form, Qualcomm and Samsung will now collaborate for the Galaxy S10’s ultrasonic fingerprint reading setup. Qualcomm will provide the sensors most likely based on its Snapdragon Sense ID. Samsung will manufacture the display panels and integrate the sensors in them. These sensors are capable of scanning through 1200 µm display stacks, 800 µm coverglass, and 600 µm of aluminum.
Samsung’s decision to use ultrasonic sensors is motivated by a decreased ability of ultrasonic sensors to impact image and panel structure quality.
